Meet Our People: Ellen Funke

Ellen’s passion for technology and her unwavering positivity are the perfect combination for solving some of our client’s most difficult challenges. From understanding the specifics of a client application to ensuring new technology implementations provide value for clients, Ellen is continually pursuing all aspects of technology.

Desiring to make an impact in the technology community, since joining KSM Consulting (KSMC), Ellen has found her niche as part of the strategy and performance team.

Why did you join KSMC?
Ever since I began working in Indianapolis, I have been drawn to the great things happening in the technology space. I had an itch to learn more and to interact with and learn from technology experts. At KSMC, I found that fit.

Tell us about your role at KSMC.
I am part of the strategy and performance team at KSMC which enables me to work on a variety of technology projects. It’s a unique role. My specialty is working on projects that require a quick turnaround, involve a new technology initiative or implementation, or have an immediate need that requires a hands-on approach or collaboration amongst multiple stakeholders.

Whether it be building trust or quickly aligning with a vendor, my role requires an active approach to communication, collaboration, and getting the right people in the room.

What is the strategy and performance team?
The strategy and performance team is made up of a small subset of KSMC thought leaders with diverse backgrounds. The team is leveraged to develop solutions to challenges that have never been solved before. Whatever challenge is causing a client to be stuck, we help them figure it out. It’s an excellent team to be a part of as we are continually tackling new challenges and learning right alongside the client every step of the way.

What do you enjoy most about your role?
The process of building trust with clients. Even when a client is in a tight spot and doesn’t know what to do next, I like jumping in and helping them to discover a way out. Doing this while navigating the complexities of personalities and backstory, the strengths and weaknesses of the team, and figuring out how to position people and capitalize on resources so that everyone is successful and goals are met is invigorating.

What is your favorite KSMC value?
Empathy is by far the winner. Daily, we are in the trenches with clients. We care deeply. We go the extra step and take the initiative to internalize the client’s experience. Because of our ability to empathize, we have the unique opportunity to become part of the client’s team. Being a part of our client’s team and the KSMC team, it’s the best of both worlds.

What are you most known for around the office?
Likely my speed walking. But, more seriously, I’d like to think it is my unrelenting, positive energy. I apply it to every project and have seen it be a critical differentiator during projects that require a rapid turnaround or on projects where a client encounters a new challenge. In these scenarios, stress can be high. I strive to maintain positivity across the team, which often results in increased energy and productivity.
