The Tech 25 winners represent a wide range of roles within tech companies and are chosen as star performers at their companies who build others up and are committed to contributing to the broader community. Max started at KSMC in June 2015 after graduating from Miami University in Ohio. Daily, he applies empathy to connect people and process through the most effective applications of technology. It’s one thing to say you’re passionate about using technology to solve the world’s problems. It’s entirely another to dedicate hundreds of hours of your time to solve those problems with technology. Max is a relentless learner. “Proficient” is not a word in Max’s vocabulary. He will do whatever it takes — regardless of the number of hours or brainpower required — to achieve deep expertise in technologies that are new him. And he does so with unyielding enthusiasm because his deepest desire is for his client to succeed. “His love of and fascination with technology inspires me and those around him to innovate continuously and never settle for ‘meeting expectations’ when ‘exceeding expectations’ is an option. It’s people like Max that make change happen.” – Ryan Achterberg, KSMC Director of Applications. Outside of the office, Max enjoys contributing to open-source development projects to continue developing his competencies and adding value to the world using software. When he’s not at his computer, Max enjoys working out at Orangetheory where he can apply data to physical fitness. Over the past several years, Max has invested in the Indianapolis community in a variety of ways as well, including pro-bono consulting projects with the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana and the Indianapolis Women’s Chorus, and volunteering with Indy Reads. His work with the Girl Scouts of Central Indiana included helping the organization explore ways to stay connected with its alumni base. Max’s work with the Indianapolis Women’s Chorus (IWC) involved helping the organization to build a brand and better understand its value to the community. He also served as a connector for IWC, helping leadership forge partnerships with other nonprofits to build equity in the community. Max has spent a lot of his free time volunteering with Indy Reads, working with adults at various levels of literacy and English proficiency. He’s had the opportunity to work with refugees from other countries seeking a better life, but with no means to communicate. His focus at Indy Reads is using innovative techniques to help his students learn English and feel less vulnerable as they navigate a new culture and language. KSMC’s mission is to help our clients, coworkers, and communities thrive, and Max’s work inside and outside of KSMC is in support of this mission and in alignment with KSMC values.
