This is the second award KSMC has received for the AMARO solution after winning the 2020 TechPoint Mira Service Partner of the Year award in June. Every year, the Government Innovation Awards celebrate disruptive technologies and technology providers who are helping to transform the shape of federal, state, and local public sector initiatives. Technologies honored run the gamut from AI-enabled armaments to crash detection and mitigation assistants. KSMC is honored to be part of the 2020 class of winners for this prestigious award. About Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC), Crane Division The Crane Division (NSWC Crane) of the Naval Surface Warfare Center is located in Crane, Indiana and is the third-largest naval station in the world. Its focus: to support the American military with state-of-the-art technology in three core focus areas: Electronic Warfare, Strategic Missions, and Expeditionary Warfare. This mission takes shape in the form of a variety of technology-focused designs, developments, deployments, and ongoing support for its products. In terms of scope, the Crane site supports over 5,500 civilian contractors on base and, in 2019, they awarded over $1.1 billion in contracts to a wide range of supplier and vendor partners to support their efforts. Supply Chain Risk Drove Need for AMARO Solution While the concept of supply chain risk is well known and accounted for within the public sector, and specifically the U.S. Department of Defense, the solutions available primarily focused on corporate-level risks rather than individual device risk. This corporate focus means that the available analytical tools typically look at data related to the companies associated with products rather than the products themselves. Lacking information about the product has produced a fundamental risk gap for product planners and designers needing to be assured of the ongoing viability of components selected for these sensitive projects. Because of the global nature of the microelectronic and semiconductor supply chain in particular, the same parts from the same company could have vastly different production origins leading to increased risk within previously vetted companies. Enter AMARO Because of this lack of visibility into device–specific risk profiles across the industry, NSWC Crane contracted with KSM Consulting to develop a prototype for an Automated Microelectronics Analysis and Reporting Optimization solution – AMARO. AMARO automates and enhances the current supply chain risk elimination process by digesting thousands of structured and unstructured datasets from across the internet and then applying advanced analytics to this information. Utilizing a tailored and easy-to-use interface, users of the system are quickly able to use searches and links within data to readily identify potential risks and flag them for follow-up. The AMARO solution, now in production, has drastically improved the efficiency of report generation and probabilistic record linkage to connect people, parts, companies, and regions across differentiated supply chains – a task that was impossible utilizing Crane’s previous techniques.
