How did you choose a career in data engineering at KSM Consulting?

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Medical Science and came to KSMC from the healthcare industry. I became really interested in data as I assisted clinical researchers in finding solutions through data. I have been able to translate and apply the skills I learned in my clinical experience to working here at KSMC.

My technical background helps me take a holistic approach to solutions and allows me to present a data extract that suits the client’s interested population. Even with my technical background, one of my favorite parts of being a Data Engineer is getting to know my clients, building relationships, and collaborating to create data-driven solutions.

Have you had any mentors that have helped you along your way?

Truly all of our KSMCers have been mentors to me! People from all across the organization have worked alongside me and supported me in my growth. Everyone in the company brings different perspectives and backgrounds that add to the value of our company and the strength of our outcomes.

What skills are important to have as a successful data engineer in consulting?

The most important thing you can do is stay up-to-date on all of the latest technology—today that’s Microsoft Azure Cloud Computing Services. To help clients modernize their technology, I have to be informed and knowledgeable. Having a heavy technical background in coding and being able to work with other tools and technologies like cloud computing helps me successfully integrate the best tools into each client solution. Another key skill to success that often gets overlooked is good communication. It is just as important to be able to clearly communicate solutions to help clients understand and learn, as it was developing the solution itself.

What is your favorite thing about KSMC?

It is hard to pick just one. In my mind, there are two major aspects of our company that set it apart from other organizations.

  • The first is our mission. I am passionate about serving my clients and my community, which coincides directly with KSMC’s values as well.
  • Second, the culture here is unmatched. It is great to be surrounded by my supportive employees who also have the drive to work with the most modern technologies in the data industry. Every year we all work to constantly improve and push the envelope to deliver the best outcomes for our clients.

It has been amazing to be a part of this quickly growing company and see the profound impact our solutions have had on our community. KSMC is the perfect package.

Where are you involved in the Indy community?

I am a part of the Indiana Latino Institute, a nonprofit organization designed to improve health and advance education for the Indiana Latino community. Here, I have built my leadership skills and had the opportunity to engage with local students, sharing what it’s like to work in the technology industry. I also assist students with college applications and career paths. I love advising these eager students and helping them find answers to their inspiring questions.

How does KSMC support your professional growth?

From the day I started, I have always felt that KSMC has supported my professional growth. I was so grateful when KSMC sponsored my participation in the Latino Leadership Circle. The company’s investment in me motivates me to return the favor through my hard work and improved solutions for my clients.
